PackExpo2022

Vernon Hills, Illinois - October 03, 2022

Visit Booth S-1505 at McCormick Place in Chicago to get a unique look at packaging capabilities from a trusted name in automation

Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. will exhibit its innovative packaging solutions dedicated to helping end-users and machine makers in the packaging industry unlock hidden potential in the performance of their machines.

On display this year, in collaboration with Southie Autonomy, is a beverage pick and place application, including a tool changer to switch between cans and cartons of cans. Mitsubishi Electric's RV-8 Series articulated arm works with Southie's automation software in this demo can be described as an artificial intelligence layer built on top of our robotic hardware. The solution addresses a gap in the current packaging market that is being caused by changing consumer needs and labor shortages (both on the production floor and engineering).

Newly released Gemini 3D Simulator Software will be shown in the booth, which allows users to construct animated 3D models in a virtual space to preview production operations, analyze scenarios and save rework by troubleshooting issues on-the-spot before constructing their project.

Patrick Varley, product marketing manager for mechatronics at Mitsubishi Electric Automation, and Rahul Chipalkatty, founder of Southie Autonomy, will be featured on the Innovation Stage, discussing how to combat labor issues with flexible automation. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25 at 1pm CT on Innovation Stage 3 (N-4585) at McCormick Place.

"There has never been a more exciting time for customers to innovate, investigate, and consider robotics in packaging," said Jeff Brown, senior manager of global industry solutions at Mitsubishi Electric Automation. "To combat labor force challenges, advancements in robotics have been made like artificial intelligence, ease of programming, collaborative robots, and improvements in end-of-arm tooling. On top of this only Mitsubishi Electric offers a full suite of surrounding solutions including PLCs, drives, motion, and safety."
