Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. has integrated CC-Link IE Field Safety features into its MR-J4-GF Servo Amplifiers, facilitating complete industrial Ethernet safety communication capabilities and attributes.  CC-Link IE Field is an open 1-Gbit industrial Ethernet automation network. CC-Link IE Field Safety meets both IEC and ISO safety standards.

The 1-Gbit per second (Gbps) data transfer rate provides the necessary speed and capacity required for Industry 4.0 requirements. This additional bandwidth capacity over the 150 megabits per second (Mbps) used for motion communication can allow for both necessary safety control, as well as for any future diagnostic communications and other non-real time transmissions.

With the CC-Link IE Field Safety integration and the additional option card MR-D30 attached, the MR-J4-GF now meets international safety standards for Category 4 PLe SIL3. The integration also makes the system configuration much simpler and cleaner by reducing wiring. OEMs can save time and money with this easier configuration because they only need to connect the Mitsubishi Electric Simple Motion Module with the servo amplifier to establish safety over the network.

“The safety signal from the safety PLC can be transmitted directly to MR-J4-GF via CC-Link IE Field. This feature is especially beneficial for OEMs and end users in automotive, packaging, welding and material handling applications, as well as any industries with safety requirements,” said Elaine Wang, senior product marketing engineer, Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc.  “End users can easily access the safety information or functions through Mitsubishi Electric’s graphic operation terminal.”
Beyond its newly integrated CC-Link IE Field Safety features, other key features of the MR-J4-GF Servo Amplifiers include:

  • One-Touch Tuning™ – Fast, trouble-free servo tuning that really works. Offers optimum performance with no tuning experience necessary.
  • Superior motion performance – Advanced Vibration Suppression Control II™, One-Touch Tuning™, 4 million pulse encoders, and 2.5 kHz speed frequency response reduces settling time and minimizes overshoot.
  • Failure prediction function – Detects age-related changes in machine performance based on the friction and vibrations monitored by a machine diagnosis function.
