Houston

Houston, Texas - August 28, 2019

In collaboration with BenCheri’ Educational Center and Youth Building Success Enhancement of Houston, Illinois-based Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. conducted a training and workforce development program for students in the Acres Homes community of Houston, Texas from August 26 – 30, 2019.

Mitsubishi Electric Automation is a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, one of the world's leading names in the manufacture and sales of electrical and electronic products and systems used in a broad range of fields and applications. The automation business unit of Mitsubishi Electric specializes in products such as Computer Numerical Controllers (CNCs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), servo motors, and industrial robots, which are found in factories and manufacturing floors across the world, in industries such as oil and gas, medical, transportation, and aerospace. As part of the company’s Workforce Development Program, it aims to bring its equipment to elementary schools, high schools, technical colleges, and non-profit organizations, and provide skills in programming, service, maintenance and operations needed for tomorrow’s workforce.

Mitsubishi Electric Automation granted a CNC Specialist Certification to those who successfully completed the program, which was offered for free during the week of August 26-30th. The training program is specifically oriented towards teenagers, adults, and previously incarcerated persons who encounter difficulties finding sustainable jobs. Mitsubishi Electric and BenCheri’ will host an awards ceremony on Friday, August 30th, to recognize the students who successfully completed the certification training. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, along with other elected officials, including Texas State Representative Jarvis Johnson, will attend to show their support of the endeavor.

“Workforce development is extremely important to us,” said Derrick Jordan, mechatronics engineering group manager at Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. “The Specialist Certification provides each student with a new set of skills to compete and thrive in the Houston region.”

“Thanks to Mitsubishi Electric for investing in young people and providing highly specialized computer training. By developing new skills, the BenCheri’ students who successfully completed the program will have opportunities to become gainfully employed and provide for themselves and their families,” Mayor Sylvester Turner said. “Acres Homes is part of my Complete Communities Initiative. My mission is to boost workforce development, affordable housing, and enhance the quality of life in neighborhoods throughout Houston.
