V500 Series Legacy Information

Background: The FR-V500 drive was introduced as the replacement to Mitsubishi Electric’s first closed loop vector drive, the V200 series. Loaded with new technologies the V500 provided vector control without an encoder by controlling the motor excitation and torque currents separately.

Lifecycle: Discontinued (January 2017)

Service Life: Repair service available to January 2024.

Migration Info

The FR-A800 when used with the FR-A8AP (encoder feedback option card) would be the most suitable replacements for the FR-V500 series VFD. The FR-A8AP option card is required for vector control. Before migrating to the FR-A800 series, we encourage our customers to review the factory VFD transition guide to confirm dimensions, options and specifications prior to upgrading inverters. Please contact your local Mitsubishi Electric office or sales channel below to discuss the VFD options that are available.

Note: The rated current value of the FR-V500 series was larger than that of the FR-A800 series. When replacing the FR-V500 with the A800 series, use a FR-A800 series inverter which has a capacity one-size higher than the FR-V500 series inverter.
